Private Ceramic Lessons

Private Ceramic Instruction — Customized to Your Goals and Schedule

Looking for a more personalized ceramics experience? Private lessons offer one-on-one instruction tailored specifically to your interests, goals, and skill level. Whether you're brand new to clay, looking to refine specific techniques, or have a project in mind you'd like guidance on, these sessions are designed around you.

Unlike group classes, private lessons are scheduled individually and customized to fit your availability. Together, we'll create a plan that matches your experience level and artistic interests, allowing you to move at your own pace while receiving focused instruction and feedback throughout the process.

Private lessons can cover a wide range of ceramic handbuilding techniques including pinch, coil, slab construction, sculptural form development, surface treatments, carving, texturing, glazing, and finishing. Sessions may be structured around learning foundational skills, completing a specific project, or developing a body of work over multiple lessons.

What's Included

All clay, glazes, tools, and firings are included. No prior experience is necessary. Lessons are designed for beginners and experienced makers alike.

Scheduling

Private lessons are arranged directly between instructor and student. I encourage you to reach out about your schedule prior to booking to make sure our availability aligns. I recommend five 2hr sessions spread out amongst 3-4 weeks.

What to Bring

Everything needed for class is provided, but students may want to bring:
• A sketchbook or notebook for ideas and notes
• Reference images or inspiration
• Water and snacks
• An apron or clothes you don't mind getting messy in

Studio Notes

Lessons take place in my studio located inside a historic West Bottoms building in Kansas City. During the summer months, the studio can get quite warm, so please dress comfortably and plan accordingly. Flexible scheduling allows lessons to be planned around the most comfortable times of day.

Private lessons offer the most direct path to developing ceramic skills, exploring personal creative interests, and receiving individualized guidance throughout the entire process.
